Applications

IN THE MASS
Europal 2BHC Liq. should be added where the stock is vigorously agitated. It can be added directly in the mixing chest where the pH is around 5.0 to get best results. Generally 0.2 - 0.3%. Europal 2BHC Liq. of dry pulp is adequate. In special cases 0.75%. Europal 2BHC Liq. of dry pulp will be advantageous.
SURFACE COATINGS

IN SIZE COATINGS: The amount required is generally 1.0 - 5 gm/ltr. Europal 2BHC Liq. To improve the printing properties of printing and writing paper size solution (reduced starches, CMC etc.) are often applied to the surface on the size press of some other device which may or may not be part of the paper machine. Maximum whiteness is obtained at 7gm/ltr Europal 2BHC Liq. (starch base) depending on the prevailing condition and the degree of whiteness.

IN PIGMENTED COATING SLURRIES: Europal 2BHC Liq. is particularly suitable for pigmented coating slurries with a starch/latex base due to it's high affinity for the normal range of binders. The quantities required depend on the basic whiteness of the white pigments and binders, the machine speed, the thickness of coating and white effect required. To obtain the maximum white effect the pH of the coating should be kept slightly alkaline (pH 8-9) with concentrated ammonia. The recommended quality is generally 0.5 - 5gm/ltr. depending upon the make up of the coating slurry.

Note:

  • Use of the cationic auxiliaries is not desirable as these may get precipitated with the anionic optical brighting agent
  • Use of chelating agents such as E.D.T.A. (0.2 gm/ltr) is suggested to prevent interference due to heavy metal ions such as Copper, Iron, Zinc and Magnesium.
